Do you know where your stop tap is to shut off all of your water? Better yet, do you know if the stop tap actually works?
Stop Tap Replacements - Minimising Emergency Call-Outs
Every week I go to properties and the homeowner isn’t sure where the stop tap actually is. We usually find it 90% of the time and it helps when you know where to look however, if there was water pouring through the ceiling ruining your house, whilst you were having to look for it and then you find out that it is seized up, you may rethink why it didn’t get sorted sooner.
Having an accessible working stop tap should be a main priority in every home. Houses can get absolutely ruined by water damage, especially if left for a few hours and it can usually be quite simple to prevent this by installing or replacing the old stop tap which is seized up.
As a business which takes on emergency work 24/7 if you were to ever have this issue I can come out to help however as a homeowner by having this safety measure in place it could save on paying an emergency callout fee late at night or a back and forth nightmare with your insurance company over the damage caused. I recommend all customer to exercise their stop tap every 6 months to stop it seizing up or to shut the water off to the house when they go on holiday to prevent any flooding issues whilst away for prolonged periods of time.
All customers should also be aware of where the gas shut off valve is. Knowing where these two valves are can usually prevent 90% of extremely urgent call-outs so that they can then be attended to the next day in more regular working hours rather than 2AM, saving the customer money and my sleep schedule.
Check now that you and all your family members know where the water shut off point is and if it can be fully turned off. If not feel free to call JTAI Plumbing to get it sorted out.
